  1. Mr. Haley,

You brought Rorschach to life for me. You took an interesting character and made him real. I enjoyed you in the Bad News Bears, as well.

I can’t say enough good about “Watchmen”. Everyone did so well, Snyder pulled it off, but…WOW! Mr. Haley! I have seen it 3 times so far, and your scenes fascinate me still. I really feel like there is (well, was) a real Rorschach, kinda how I used to wish Christopher Reeve flew around the world protecting us. Great SFX and costuming and sets, but you nailed it, and if you are as big a fan of the work as I have read, I think you know you nailed it. I hope I get to see more behind the scenes and moviemaking info from you on the DVD.

You’re fight scenes with the cops and Ozymandias kicked ASS! Them other posers (Batman, Iron Man, Wolverine) have nothing on you, sir! Rorschach was down and dirty, and I loved every second of it!

I’ll spare you anymore aging fanboy babbling, but was it true that you had read the comic before the movie process began, and enjoyed it so much that you sought out the part?

One more thing, there is a certain thing you do with your lip, a sort of instigating sneer, where the left side of your mouth opens, we see your teeth, and the skin tightens up. I noticed it in the scene where Rorschach is talking with the psychiatrist in jail. Is it something you are aware of? I ask this silly question, because when I noticed it, I saw the tough kid from BNB come through. I want to say I remember you doing it back then, too, but maybe I’m crazy. I know I have seen you do that look before Watchmen. Very cool, indeed. It fit Rorschach well!

Thanks for your time, Mr. Haley. I wish you the best of continued success!

  2. Mr. Haley,

I’ve only been a fan of your work for the past month or so, but you have easily become my favorite actor. It’s not just because of your talent, but also because you seem to be a genuine, nice guy. I love your philosophy on life and how you didn’t get bitter for being ignored by Hollywood. After reading/listening to interviews with you, I’m 100% convinced that you truly deserved this second chance.

I’d have to say that my favorite movie you’ve been in is “Little Children.” (I even wrote a film analysis on it because I found your portrayal of Ronnie to be so fascinating.) One thing I noticed when I was watching it for the second time is how expressive your eyes are. Even without saying a word, I could actually feel what Ronnie was feeling, to an extent, just by looking at your eyes.

And like a lot of people, I discovered you through “Watchmen.” I found the movie itself to be alright, but your performance had me glued to the screen. It was like Rorschach had jumped right off the page. Seriously, there’s no one who could’ve done a better job than you. (Although, I have to wonder if doing that voice hurt after a while.)

I definitely look forward to seeing what you’ll do next, and I wish you the best of luck.

  3. Wow… is this for real..?

Well um… howdy there, Jackie! I was really hoping that I’d find a physical address where I could send you a hand-written letter and then in turn receive an autographed picture of you… but how about we do this instead: I’ll just say what I intended to say in my letter to you here, and then you just let all us fans know where you might be giving autographs. Deal? :)

Alright–simply put… you are amazing. And you’re so personable! It’s amazing that you can just give your all-around-great-guy personality a 180 degree twist and become some of the most memorable movie characters ever! I could just shower you with praise and compliments all day… but above anything, I just want to say thank you for sharing your wonderful talent with the world. I know you really appreciate your fans, so let us appreciate you back with you appearing at more comic cons and comic book stores! Especially here in Texas… I live in the Dallas area and was crushed when I found out that I had missed your in-store signing in San Antonio.

I hope you’ll consider making more surprise appearances… and especially if you’re going to keep up your end of the bargain! ;)

    Your Fan,
    -Lizzy

  4. You really are brilliant. Your work has touched a part of my soul that no other actor/actress has ever done before. I look forward to seeing your future endeavors, as well as enjoying your past works as well. THANK YOU!!

  6. Watched Little Children yesterday. I actually felt sorry for your character.Alot. He was hard done by that crazy ex-policemen and the surburban housewives alike.

  7. Just wanted to let you know that when I try to follow you on Twitter, it goes all wonky and won’t let me.

Also, I have a Rorschach tattoo (from the comic, not the movie) (doesn’t mean anything, I just like telling people. It’s on my blog, for anyone who’s curious).
Also, you were shafted out of an Oscar for ‘Little Children.’
Also: Most awful date ending EVER in that movie.
Finally: To the people who run this site – keep up the good work!

  8. It is rare that you find someone who puts everything into their craft. You are an inspiration to me as a writer and artist.

Your performance in Watchmen was nothing short of amazing; you carried the movie on your own. Though, I admit I haven’t seen everything you’ve done, what I have seen is jaw-dropping.

I admire your talent and humility. Sometimes everyone just needs someone to look up to that makes them feel like ‘I can do it.’

Thank you for your dedication and true love of your craft. You are a real-life hero.

  9. Hello Mr.Haley!! I am a huge fan of everything you do.You are so amazing and I LOVE “Watchmen” I have seen it about 5 times I think by now, lol.Well I’m pretty sure you don’t actually read these but if you do,I wanted to tell you that I just got a big Rorschach tattoo and I hope one day you will sign it,and I will get your autograph tattooed on there as well.I hope to meet you one day! Your awesome!!!!!!!!

  10. I’ve liked this actor since Bad News Bears..when he suddenly reappeared on screen after so many years, I was stunned….and also quite happy. Having just seen Watchmen, I have to tell you- movie screens were bereft all those years, and didn’t know it. His work is a study in immersion.
I recall reading a critique of Lee J Cobb back in the 50s, when he starred in Death of a Salesman on Bway, where a critic said, ‘Tonight, I watched a man cast a shadow that was not his own.’
That’s Jackie Early Haley. He does that.
I only hope Hollywood gives him back all the time in between, for all our sakes. What an actor….

Great site, I’ve really enjoyed it here. I hope to spend more time here.

    Best Regards.

  11. From the moment I heard Rorschachs voice in the movie commercials I got chills and thought “that is the exact voice I’ve always read it in, PERFECT” then when I found out you were playing the part, my inner child got VERY excited. Bad News Bears was always a staple in my house, and you were my favorite.
I am so so so so so happy and exited that you are making such incredible movies, and you seem so genuine in your interviews, it’s such a “couldn’t happen to nicer guy” moment. I wish you so much success in your life and career, and THANK YOU for doing such an amazing job as Rorschach.

  12. Um, hello, I just wanted to thank you for being such an awesome person and an awesome actor. You deserve every bit of praise you get. :)

Oh, I should probably introduce myself. My name is Zoe Petrichick and I live in a really tiny town in Upstate NY. I’m a girl (duh) and a complete comic nerd, and to be honest I didn’t really know about you til I heard about “Watchmen” and saw that you were going to play Rorschach. Naturally I decided to check you out in the movie “Little Children”, and well, let’s just say you moved me to tears on several instances. You have this wonderful ability to scare me yet make me completely sympathise with you in every way. I rarely ever cry at movie’s, not a lot of people make me do that, but you did.

Next I saw you in “Watchmen”, from the moment you stepped in I started holding my breath. To be honest, Rorschach wasn’t my favorite character when I read Watchmen, it was Dr. Manhattan, but when you came on screen you made me love Rorschach instantly. He was so lonely, human, childlike, vicious sad and beautifully broken. Just the tone of his voice and his body language really spoke to me for some odd reason, just seeing Ror interact with other’s made me really connet with him emotionally. As you have probably guessed, you made me shed a tear or two in this film too. Your death scene, the way you talked and your pained expression made me really CARE that this character was willing/going to die, you really made my heart crack into several peices. (In a good way mind you! *Laughs* )

So yeah, I just wanted to say that you are awesome, and stuff. :)

    Thank you ever so much,
    Zoe Anistasia Petrichick.

P.S- This is me if you are wondering. ==> http://i128.photobucket.com/albums/p171/youkiprincess/Me/Bufallotree086.jpg (My hair’s reddish brown now though due to it dying because I bleached the crap outta it. xD)

  13. Hi there!! I have been a huge fan since Bad News Bears!! And the fact that I am related to you helps. I don’t know if you will remember me, but I am your cousin on your grandmas side of the family. I met you once at a family reunion in Fresno. You were a sweetheart then just as you are now. I have enjoyed watching you act and finally receive the recognition you have deserved. Hey, it runs in the family, you got it from somewhere!!lol So the next time you are in California and you arent busy being Freddy or some other great lead, look me up. Ever need a hair cut just give me a call, lol! Or email me!!lol. Have a great day and break a leg~!!

  14. *waves* :3 Good day, Mr. Haley…

..this is an attempt to be actually a little serios for once. (Yes. Serios is spelled wrong for a reason.) Well, what do I say? You’re just amazing. <3 This is coming from a girl who hasn’t literally seen ANY of your movies. *ashamed* I even missed ‘Watchmen’…..*even more ashamed* However I’m just about to watch ‘Little Children’. I expect spectacular….ness! :’D
I also just can’t possiblly wait for Nightmare on Elm Street. Iunno how I can call myself a fan because I didn’t even watch any of those either! But I remember watching a bit of it once where Freddy made this man’s head just explode with a raking of his claws to a chalkboard….ARE YOU GONNA DO THAT TOO? I hope so. > If not, then nevermind….
…I wonder if links work here. http://fc04.deviantart.com/fs44/f/2009/119/5/1/One__two_Freddy__s_coming_for__by_pAt_ThE_bAkEr.jpg <– there it is. :3
Well anyway, you’re awesome, you know this, and I’ll leave before I can’t keep this serios act up anymore.
    Best of luck, Mr. Haley.~
    P.S.: Sorry I use so many smilies. It’s a habit. XD;

  15. Jackie
Just saw you in Little Children. You were astounding!!
My wife and I really appreciated your performance. As a former police officer who had regular contact with sex crime registrants, you nailed it. Keep up the great work. You deserve an Oscar.

  16. Hi there Jackie, well Mr. Haley…I’ve tried to reach you several times by calling your production company…but to no avail…
Its me Scoody, well Mr. Tee now…, you know Mustapha from the Bad News Bears Go To Japan….I just wanted to say hello and to try to get some advice from you on how a former child actor should go about getting re-discovered.
If you can fit me into your busy schedule, I would like to hear, or at least read from you…. so I can get some pointers on how to re-establish myself as a prominent actor…

  17. I’ve applied to work as an extra on Nightmare on Elm Street. Would love to work with. If you could get hold of me through E-mail I’d like to send you my resume to show that I am really trying to make it in acting. I’m glad to see you back on the screen. Gentlemen like you give me the inspiration to keep trying.

    Sincerely,
    J. Chapman

  18. I just saw the clip, Mr. Haley, of your work in Little Children. I’ve been hesitating renting it, because of the subject matter. Now I’m compelled, after seeing that clip. Amazing to see a character so clearly defined in such a brief few moments on film, but you communicate emotion with such a precise filter, that there’s just no misunderstanding of your characters. I’m truly awed….I’m not a huge fan of horror, but I’ll be seeing Nightmare, etc. just cuz yer innit.

    Best Regards,
    Jojo

  19. Oh my gosh do i really get to talk to you?
Awesome but anyway i just want to say what a brilliant job you did on Little Children and in Watchmen. I certainly loved the Watchmen movie with a passion. It was so good it made me go out and buy the comic. XD Well thank you so much if you read this. I can’t wait for any movies that you do in the future!
P.S. Can i possibly get an autograph?

    Sincerely,
    Megan Mertens

  20. Hi Jackie. I am an American living in England and I just wanted to drop you a line to tell you just how much I have enjoyed your films. For me, your wonderful performance as “Dave” in 1983′s Losin’ It was the very best thing about a vastly underrated comedy. I have laughed so many times at “Dave”, his “Frank Sinatra” hat and his all too believable antics “South of the Border”. I thought your scenes with John P. Navin, Jr. as “Wendall” (“Wimp”) were especially good. I have never been too sure if “Wendall” was actually his younger brother or not. There were some vague comments made about his being his little brother. But it is never conclusively clear. Jackie, it is great to see you active in films again and that you are doing so great. You seem to be a very nice guy and it is wonderful to see you getting the success, recognition and acclaim that you so richly deserve. Take care and all the best. Sincerely, Mike Davidson.

  21. Hello, just wondering if there were any publicity shots of “Walter Kovacs” taken?

  22. I don’t know what to say. First of all hello *smiles* My name is Gina Alana Smith I do have ANOTHER middle name but it’s embarrassing…I live in England…it rains alot! Heh! Now to the REAL message…

I’ve seen most of your films and I think you are an amazing actor. You’re an inspiration…You really are. I know you probably hear that alot but it’s true…You really are someone people should look upto. I loved your most recent role as Roschach and I cannot WAIT to see you in Nightmare on Elm Street.

I wish you all the best in your future work and hope that I am lucky enough to interview you or ask you to be in one of my films one day for my production company (which I’m hoping to set up soon)

Keep the films and TV shows coming and I’ll keep watching…This a great website…So thank you.

    Stay beautiful and true Jackie.

    Kindest Regards

    Gina Smith

  23. Jackie…you scared me in “little children” and made me sick, watching the car-scene i really almost puked at my friends couch an it gave me the creeps. in “watchmen” you’ve been that straight and brutal and such a great, overwhelming beeing, i bought the novel to find out if rorschach really was like that.

no need to tell you once more you hit it 1 to 1.

you see, i’m fascinated by our skills, you are a blessed actor and i’m sure you’ll scare the crap out of me in nightmare on elmstreet.
but before that i’m looking forward to buy the watchmen dvd and watch the movie in o-tone…the youtube-scenes gave me an impression of your voice in the film, which is sure similar in german, but not as good as the original. by watching some interviews i think your voice is pretty soft, which makes me wonder how i’d like you in a “good person”-character… really need to see more of you and i hope you don’t quit acting again for so long!!

    my pleasure,

    marlene

  24. Um, wow.
Sorry, but I feel like this isn’t ever going to reach you, you’ll never read it… It’s so surreal.
I have to admit that, even though I saw the original Bad News Bears (if I remember correctly, you were my favourite character) when I was a kid, I didn’t know who you were. I mean, I’m not yet in my 20s, so of course you did loads more since then, but until Watchmen, I didn’t realize.
I bought the graphic novel only this winter, and have read it at least seven times. My favourite character? of course, Rorschach. The coolest one of the bunch (I especially love his costume!), and not to mention craziest. When I heard about a Watchmen movie coming out, I was skeptical, wondering mostly who would play Rorschach and how well they would pull it off, if they even could.
You, Mr. Haley, were pure gold.
You did the voice exactly how I imagined it. You looked like Walter. You “hurm”ed, and WELL. And, if I might… I’m sure many would agree that you pulled off the wife-beater-wearing, ripping-the-jail-shirt look.
I felt the character leap off the page. No other actor could have possibly done it for me. I’m glad I didn’t recognize you from anything else (I haven’t seen All The King’s Men — yet) because I got to see the character, not the actor.
If only they considered “superhero” (vigilante…) movies as highly as other ones. Then you could get the awards you deserve (Of course, everybody else on the cast and crew would most likely receive one — Zack Snyder should just get an award for being able to make so many movies with a hundred slo-mo scenes without getting railed — but I seriuosly believe you deserve some kind of Best Actor award).
I’ll be looking forward to Shutter Island, and just because you’re in it, I’m going to go see the new Nightmare on Elm Street.
Sorry about all this fangirl babbling; you must get this a lot.
PS, great smile. And eyebrow quirk. I wish I could pull that off.

I’m hoping that someday, somewhere, maybe we could meet (at a signing thing, or something like that! Whoa… sorry about the creepiness of that. I’m not good at wording things, at all… I live in Canada, so that’s why it’s a very implausible chance.).

    Take care, man.

    Very sincerely,

    Narissa

  25. HEY!!! sorry thats how i greet people well of couse damn I probably am making my self look bad sorry. But any way you wanted feedback right… Well I may have only watched watchmen but it’s because of you i watch it. I am not sure as to what is wrong in my head (not saying anything bad about you it’s what my friends say) because you voice in it is one reson an other is because well your just a great actor. But the reson i say I don’t know whats wrong with me is because I love creepy things and as your voice scared most people it made me love you lol. you put your self ahead of Elvis Presley witch trust me comeing from me thats a wow because I have had Elvis number one since I was 4 long time :) . Why did Roschach have to die though it was mean he (you) were the best person in the whole thing!!! ok sorry i went on and on you probably think what i said was stupid anyway so ya lol. if you could or want to would you e-mail me back it would mean a lot to me thank you make more movies your doing greeat and I hopr one day to meet you face to face :)
